Insomnia – what can cause it?

Insomnia is a condition that affects a growing group of society. Insufficient sleep, especially if it persists for a long time, has huge (negative) consequences. That is why it is worth getting to know its causes and learn how to fight it effectively.

Insomnia

Insomnia - What is it?

We talk about insomnia when an insufficient amount of sleep occurs at least 3 times a week for a period of at least one month. The essence of this disorder is difficulty falling asleep or not achieving the feeling of rest after sleeping. An important element of diagnosis is also whether sleep disorders contribute to the deterioration of the quality of life, i.e. hinder functioning in the society. Insomnia affects all aspects of functioning: health, family, sports, success at work. It is not worth neglecting it with the thought that it will ‘someday go away’. It will not pass.

The causes of insomnia vary widely. Difficulty falling asleep, indeed, can have very simple reasons: an unventilated room, an uncomfortable bed, temporary agitation. If all of these are in order, it’s worth taking a deeper look and looking for the causes of insomnia in terms of health.

Hypertension

Too high blood pressure may be responsible for trouble sleeping. It leads to awakening.

Asthma

Bouts of breathlessness typical of asthma can cause waking and insomnia.

Heart failure

The symptoms of heart failure are the symptoms of breathlessness that worsens when you lie on your back.

Diseases of the digestive system, reflux

The reflux of food into the esophagus at night can cause a burning sensation behind the breastbone and can lead to a tiring cough that makes it impossible to sleep.

Chronic stress

Constant changes in life, important events, nervous work situations… They can all lead to insomnia.

Insomnia - how to fight it?

Treatment of sleep disorders can be divided into:
– non-pharmacological methods
– drug therapy.

First of all, however, it is worth starting with treating diseases whose symptom is insomnia. That is why it is so important to correctly identify high blood pressure, heart failure, lung diseases or even the symptoms of Restless Legs Syndrome.
It is also worth taking care of your diet, sports and discontinuation of stimulants. You should start yoga sessions and learn to deal with your difficult emotions.
If you want to improve the quality of sleep, you can also reach for dietary supplements. They contain active substances of natural origin that help to achieve a state of relaxation.

Still having trouble getting any sleep? You should definitely provide the body with ingredients that will help it regenerate! What are we talking about? About the 5-HTP dietary supplement! It works like serotonin, i.e. it brings the body into a state of natural happiness and helps to fall asleep!
