Collagen and its effects on the skin… You’ve probably heard a lot about it.

So let’s start with the facts: the skin consists of three layers – epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. The changes that take place in the skin over the years concern collagen, which is one of the main components of the matrix surrounding the dermis. Needless to say, this is a very important ingredient, right?

Collagen - what are the properties of what is it about?
Collagen is simply a family of extracellular proteins that are found in most tissues and organs. We can find it not only in the skin but also, among others, in bones, cartilage, cornea. It is ⅓ of the total human protein mass. The family includes as many as 30 types of collagen, which differ in structure, function, and place of occurrence. The collagen molecule technically consists of 3 chains winding around each other. The task of it is to give tissues tensile strength and maintain their structural integrity and elasticity.

Collagen as a source of amino acids
In collagen, we can also find a whole set of amino acids that are invaluable to our health. They are what make collagen so valuable for many functions of our body.
Some of them are:
a. Proline
Proline is of great importance for joints and blood vessels. It is of course also important for the skin. It is thanks to her that it maintains its flexibility. This amino acid also allows you to better defend yourself against the negative effects of UV radiation. Proline allows the skin to bind water, which makes it moisturized, smooth, and elastic.
b. Glycine
Glycine is very important for the synthesis of glucose and creatine in the body. It also plays a very important role in building red blood cells and transporting all amino acids in the body.
c. Lysine
It is its presence in collagen that delays the aging process of the skin. It also improves immunity and well-being.

Collagen and its effect on the skin.
As you can see collagen in the skin is crucial for its elasticity and endurance. With the aging of the skin, i.e. with time, the collagen molecules present in it change. To sum up – there is simply less of it, and thus… the skin looks worse! Moreover, collagen fibers become thinner with age and are also less soluble. In practice, this means poorer wound healing, a decrease in skin elasticity, and the formation of unsightly wrinkles, which are visible especially on the skin of the face and around the eyes.
It is very often used in anti-wrinkle creams. It is a well-tested biomaterial and is perfect for smoothing the skin surface at the site of wrinkles or scars. It is even used in aesthetic medicine.
So is it worth using creams with this ingredient during your daily care? Yes, but… that’s not all! Collagen should first of all be supplied from the inside. As? Reaching for dietary supplements with this ingredient, eg Marine Collagen. Only proper collagen supplementation will guarantee the delay of skin aging processes. It is also worth remembering the influence of sleep on the aging process.
